  • In a press conference, Emir Kusturica has just announced the programme of the 5th Küstendorf Film and Music Festival. Among the expected stars, let's mention Benicio del Toro, Isabelle Huppert, Asgar Farhadi and the Dardenne brothers. For the official selection more than 300 student films were screened and 20 will be in competition for the golden egg, representing Belgium, Great Britain, Estonia, Italy, Canada, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Mexico, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Russia, USA, Serbia, France and Spain. The jury, this year will be composed of Leila Hatami (actress, Iran), Pierre Edelman (producer, France), and Zoran Cvijanović (actor and producer, Serbia). They will choose the winner of the golden egg, silver and bronze egg. During the festival, films of Kim Ki-Duk and Nuri Bilge Ceylan will also be screened. 11th Morocco International Film Festival

  • After his shows in Lisbon, Avignon, London and Quito with the No Smoking Orchestra, Emir Kusturica will put his luggage down in Morocco. Indeed, he will be president of the jury of full length features of the 11th Festival International du Film Marocain, which will start on 2 december in Marrakech. His jury will be composed of Jessica Chastain, Nicole Garcia, Leïla Hatami, Abdelkader Lagtaa, Brillante Ma. Mendoza, Radu Mihaileanu, Maya Sansa and Aparna Sen. All the information on the festival :
  • Emir Kusturica continues to accept actor roles. This time, he said yes to French director Nicolas Bary for the shooting of the famous French comic novel of Daniel Pennac, The scapegoat (“Au bonheur des ogres”). Shooting should start on 16 february 2012.
  • It is still possible to submit your film for the 5th Küstendorf Film and Music Festival (until 15 december 2011). The festival will take place from 17 to 23 january 2012. All the details on the official site :

Monastery of Tvrdoš, near Trebinje

  • Emir Kusturica is currently in the region of Trebinje (Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina) to shoot a 10 minutes short film on orthodox religion. For this film, Emir Kusturica will be the only actor, playing a monk. According to Novosti, we will see him how, when he finishes the regular activities in the monastery, backpacks two large bags with rocks and ritually climbs the hill, dragging along the way, and stones fall out and he suffers and barely go, and when he reaches the top of the hill, he cries, and unload stones, then turn back. This film is part of a wider project, aiming at describing the seven big religions of the world. For the shooting, Emir Kusturica will go to Uvjeći and to the monastery of Tvrdoš. The shooting should be completed next week (7 octobre). Furthermore, Emir Kusturica seems to love the region since he indicated that he will in Uvjeće village, where all the houses are stone, do something like Project Kamengrad in Visegrad. (source :
  • Let's also mention the recent death of Otakar Vávra at the age of 100, on 15th september. He was one of the greatest czech directors, and co-founder of the FAMU, the prestigious cinema school of Prague. Beside Emir Kusturica, he had as pupil Milos Forman and Jiri Menzel. Otakar Vávra was one of the guests of the latest Küstendorf festival.
  • On 9 september was released in Italy a new book on Emir Kusturica, written by Giorgio Bertellini, who is Associate Professor on Screen Arts and Cultures for Romance Languages and Literatures at University of Michigan.
